Thoughts on evaluating the effectiveness of multi academy trusts

Some presentation notes and pictures related to evaluating the effectiveness of MATs

I propose 3 lenses to look through when examining MATs: 1 Performance including pupil outcomes. 2 Compliance with legislation, articles of association and funding agreement. 3 Governance with leadership. There plenty of tools in existence to use to evaluate performance. There are plenty of checklists against which to evaluate compliance. For example, The Key has these available. There is less around to use to evaluate governance. My other posts on using the NHSI Well Led Review Framework point to a tool already used to good efect in the NHS - another national public-funded, locally-provided service. There is a need to move thinking beyond equating governance with governorship and there is a picture to illustrate this. Unpacking governance into three components of accountability, direction and enablement assists in understanding and evaluating a MATs governance arrangements. There is a slide/picture to use as the basis for discussion.
